For quite some time, Jim has struggled with a pain in his left side. He attributed it to a pulled muscle. The pain continued to increase until it became almost debilitating and he went to the emergency room. He was sent home with pain medication and a confirmation that it was a pulled muscle and he needed to rest. Another 2 weeks passed, he continued to experience pain in his left side and so he returned to the emergency room. He was once again told it was a pulled muscle. Another week passed and with the pain continuing he made an appointment with his primary care physician. A CT scan was ordered and on March 24th a large mass was identified between his left lung and rib cage that had broken 2 of his ribs.
What the doctors have told us at this point, after a needle biopsy and review, is that the mass is of the a lymphoma type and is estimated as Stage III. More testing is being done (PET scan and bone marrow biopsy) to confirm stage and more specifics about the type of lymphoma. The good news here is that lymphomas tend to be treatable and in some cases curable. Jim will undergo 8 chemotherepy treatments every three weeks starting immediately.
Your prayers and support are deeply appreciated. We will continue to keep you updated regarding his progress.
