Jim Hertl Jim's Fantastic Journey

Jim was diagnosed and beat non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma about 15 years ago. A likely souvenir of his time in Vietnam (exposure to Agent Orange), he has been cancer-free until very recently. Trying to get to the bottom of sciatic pain, he had an MRI that didn't find any spinal problems, but DID incidentally find a mass deep in his torso, just along the spine and descending aorta. A biopsy confirmed a re-occurrence of lymphoma, this time a more aggressive form. Fortunately it is curable (!!!) although the treatment will be intensive, requiring 4-5 day inpatient hospital stays every 3 weeks for 5 months, due to the way these particular chemotherapy drugs are administered.

As an Army veteran, he has had wonderful, expedited care through the VA, for which we are so thankful. My dad is a fighter and has the best attitude and has already made a ton of friends on the oncology floor at Enloe Hospital in Chico.

We have created this site to keep the lines of communication open for all of his family and friends.

CaringBridge is a nonprofit social network dedicated to helping family and friends communicate with and support loved ones during a health journey. Learn more about CaringBridge.
