Jim was involved in a horse accident on Thursday, Feb. 11. Those of you who know JIm well will not find it hard to believe that he would pick a place that was mostly inaccessible by vehicles, and not have cell or radio service, to have a bad wreck. It took a while to get a helicopter to him.
After getting him to Parkview Hospital in Pueblo, CO it took several x-rays, CT Scans and MRI's to get a full picture about the extent of the injuries. He has quite a few broken ribs, a cracked sternum, a couple skull fractures, some facial bone fractures and a vertebra that was fractured as well as 3 that have the transverse processes broken off.
He had surgery Saturday to repair and stabilize his spine. That went very well; he went into the surgery and came out of it with full movement of all extremities.
They are now working on getting his lungs healed so they will be able to work without the aid of a ventilator. He was conscious throughout the day Thursday and all of the time prior to surgery. Since then I've been able to talk to him a little when he hasn't been totally sedated. He comprehends what is going on and what has happened.
It's expected that he will make a full recovery, it will just take more time than he's going to be happy with.
