Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place.
Jim had emergency surgery at Lewis Gale Hospital in Roanoke Virginia on April 27th. This was a result of infection discovered in his knee replacement he had in December. He was having issues with the knee not healing properly. The hematologist originally diagnosed him with CMML, which has now transitioned to Acute Leukemia. His white blood cell count continued to rise so the doctors felt it was necessary to move him to Virginia Commonwealth University (VCU) in Richmond, Virginia on Friday May 5th. They felt VCU was better equipped to handle complicated cases such as his. He has under gone 2 Leukapheresis treatments which have helped to temporarily lower his white blood cell count and the Orthopedic department is monitoring the infection in his knee. We have been very impressed with the quality of care he has received. Further discussion will be done to decide which course of treatment will be needed for the knee infection and Leukemia. Jim is in good spirits and supported by his family and friends. As more information is known, we will update this site as the central communication hub.
We appreciate your prayers and words of hope and encouragement. Thanks to all of you, from Terry, Jim, Kelly, Katie and Kari.
