This Caring Bridge was created to keep everyone posted on Jim's status.
Jim asked to begin Hospice Care this past Saturday, which means that he will no longer have dialysis treatments or paracentesis, and many medications have been eliminated from his regimen.
He has been mostly resting. Intermittently, he requests help from "Jan". Jan is ever present and a faithful partner and comforter.
His main request is to have his back scratched, to sit up and lay back down and to adjust his position.
We are working on managing his pain and keeping him as comfortable as possible.
He is still has moments of lucidity and is occasionally able to talk with visitors, although it is only a couple of times a day at this point.
He is still eating a bit. Although his appetite is diminishing gradually.
Family and friend visitors have been steady over the last several days and have been a welcome respite. It's been fun to reminisce and share stories of Jim's influence in our lives.
