Our Dad, Jim Key, has been diagnosed with an aggressive and rapidly developing cancer of the lower abdominal cavity which includes a very large portion of the lower spine. He is currently undergoing radiation at St. Joseph Candler in Savannah and will remain in treatment there for the next two weeks.
This journey began two weeks ago when Dad began experiencing extreme back pain. As of today, we are thankful that the pain is now under control and he is sleeping well at night.
While we are inspired by the sheer volume of calls, well wishes, love, concern, and affection Dad has received, we are hoping to limit the number of calls for the moment. At the very least, we want to limit the number of times Dad needs to re-explain the strange trip of the last several weeks that has brought him to this hospital bed.
As many of you well know, Dad will "talk it to ya." Thankfully, his humor and wit are back and he continues to bring joy to those around him, and some levity to these trying days. But the enormity of the moment, and his love and passion for his immediate family, faith family, and friends have delivered powerful moments of deep emotion.
We will try and keep you posted on his current health status, and expect Dad to either manage or attempt to manage our posts here! His mantra continues to be hope not optimism.
