Welcome to our CaringBridge site. We've created it to keep friends and family updated on my father Jim Hurst's journey with esophageal cancer. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement during this time when it matters most. Jim was diagnosed in June, and we're all learning about it as we go. He's been going to doctor appointments to assess the situation and determine the best course of treatment.

My mother Elaine has a lifetime of nursing experience, which along with her faith will serve him well over the next several months. Jim is the eternal optimist as anyone who knows him knows, so he's taking on this fight with the same great attitude that he's had throughout his life. My sister Alyssa and myself, along with the five grandchildren (Haines, Hillary, Harrison, Corbin and Amelia, who Papaw calls "The Fab Five") have been amazed at the strength of our family and know he's got great support. My father's friendships with many people near and far mean that he's got people in all kinds of places and in all kinds of churches praying for him. If you want to put him on your church's prayer list, please know that he would be fine with that. He's already on more than 17 prayer lists at last count.  

We continue to lean on the Bible verse: "I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me." (Philippians 4:13)  Jim is one of the most friendly people you will ever know and he's receiving a ton of support so we know that will get him and our family through the journey we have just begun.  Thanks in advance for your prayers for him and our family. I will keep you updated on what's happening as it occurs.
