Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support, prayers, and words of hope and encouragement.

Jim was diagnosed with stage IV liver cancer after a biopsy in early November 2020.
Stage IV was determined because of the size and that the cancer has reached a nearby lymph node.
Because of Jim’s COPD, a long term condition now classified as end-stage, requiring continuous oxygen it was determined he is not a candidate for surgery to remove the affected portion of the liver.

Further, an ablation procedure to basically burn the area in an attempt to slow or stop the progression is also not presently an option due to location and blood vessel involvement but we hope will be an option in the future.

He started an oral chemo medication in November, also in hopes of slowing or stopping the progression, and as his oncologist stated, “to give you years”, but understanding that his COPD is already a serious condition and this truly adds a second major battle. It’s been a journey to get the chemo dose up to the prescribed level, he has slowly increased it over about 5-6 weeks.

This site is being maintained by Jim’s (twin) sister Jan Lackey, though Jim may post from time to time.
