Jim has a passion for all things adventurous and outdoors. So naturally he was having a blast riding his dirt bike in the desert of Ocotillo Wells, just outside the San Diego area. He was riding with friends from church on Saturday, January 29th when after coming up over a hill, he encountered a huge crater in the ground. After turning sharply, he hit soft sand and crashed off the bike onto his left side. It was the hardest hit he'd ever experienced, completely knocked the wind out of him. Two guys right behind him were able to immediately help and transport him back to their camp.
Cindy drove out to the desert to get him and after taking him back to San Diego, they went to the hospital to get him checked out. It was clear that he had broken ribs, but further tests would reveal the extent of the damage. After a normal EKG, a CT scan was done.
The CT scan revealed a total of 9 broken ribs, some in multiple places, and a broken scapula, his shoulder blade. His lung was punctured and the doctors will watch for collapse and other complications. He was admitted to the hospital, one with a special trauma ER, for at least a few days. He may need surgery, but time will tell.
He's at Palomar Hospital in Escondido, near San Diego, and hanging in there. He's in a lot of pain, but in good hands with the care he's receiving. And we know he's in God's hands, we trust in God's incredible power to heal and bring peace, and we're trusting in His plan.
God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. Psalm 46:1
