Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are
using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your
support and words of hope and encouragement.
Lorna and Jim were enjoying a short vacation in Mexico when they were involved in an explosion at the home they were staying in. Damage to a nearby power line caused sparks that ignited a faulty propane line attached to the house they were sleeping in, causing a massive explosion. The second floor fell to the first floor and the roof collapsed on top of them.
Brave and gracious neighbors pulled them out of the rubble and got them in an ambulance, which stabilized and transported them to the U.S. border. They were airlifted from there to a level 1 trauma center in Phoenix. Jim has a very broken hip, several deep lacerations, and is otherwise very scraped up and bruised, but is stable and coherent. He will be undergoing
a hip replacement soon. Lorna is in the ICU in critical condition.
She sustained a thoracic spine fracture, a skull fracture, a small brain bleed, a hemothorax requiring a chest tube, a very broken arm, a broken hand, and 10 or so broken ribs, amongst many bruises and scrapes. She has
had surgery to repair a burst fracture in her thoracic spine and a separate
surgery on her left hand. We're expecting a third surgery on her
fractured elbow later today. There will likely be more surgery needed, but we are encouraged by small gains, and taking it day-by-day. It is purely by the grace of God that we still have them now. We know His hand is on both Lorna and Jim, as well as their family, and is guiding this process.
Thank you all so much for your love, prayer, and encouragment.
We’ll update this site as often as we can. Phones are sometimes difficult and service is
not always what we’d like, so the best way for you to stay up-to-date is to use
this site. Again, we are so thankful
for all of you and your prayers.http://rockypoint360.com/two-injured-in-gas-explosion-in-las-conchas/
