Jia Fang Wang

I don't really like my family. First to start off, i came from a traditional chinese family where there is sexism and racism still occuring. My problem is simple, my family adores males rather than females. For example, males in my family got to study overseas and the females only could study in the city or not at all! They do not believe that females can do what males do. My brother for example, everytime he asked for something from my parents whether it is useful or not, my parents hurriedly bought what he asked. When I ask something in the other hand, I have to beg for frequently until they got tired and bought me the things I really need and always told me that,"Girls are very money oriented these days." even though I only asked them to buy me one thing. Males in my family were frequently praised even though they do not do anything whereas when the females did all the houseworks and achieved something that they are really proud of, we females are always ignored and rejected. Everytime we have a huge family dinner, they always talked about how great their sons were but never talked about their daughters. Everytime someone got pregnant and especially if it was a boy, they always say " Congratulantions! It's a boy" and also, girls have a maximum age that she was allowed to marry. The maximum age a girl could marry is at the age of 25. If she was not to marry by the age of 25, she will be called an old hag by everyone. Males are normal to have several wifes and females are not permitted to have more than one husband! This is a major problem in my family. In each family, there must be  a boy so that he could inherit all the family's wealth or if the family only have girls, her uncles will be the one to inherit all the wealth. So, it is essential to have at least a boy in a family. It is unfair to the girls! Why don't girls have the same rights as the boys? Why don't the girls have the same birth rights as the boys? Why don't they believe that girls can do what boys can do? Why girls are not given the opportunity to study overseas. I demand a stop in sexism in this world. Females should have the same rights as males. If you are reading this blog, please support and spread the awareness about gender equality. This story is based on a true story I hope this blog will find you great help.
