Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using this platform to keep family and friends updated on Jerry's health. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.
Tuesday Sept 8th Jerry fell down in his house. Brian took Jerry to the Iowa Falls hospital. After a CAT scan was run in Iowa Falls it was determined they needed to transfer Jerry to Mercy Hospital in Des Moines.
Wednesday Sept 9 a neurologist confirmed there was a large mass in Jerry's brain on the left side. The mass was so large it had been pushing over to the right side of his brain. It was determined that he needed to have surgery asap. Surgery was scheduled for Tuesday Sept 15th.
Tuesday Sept 15th - While surgery was considered successful, they couldn't get out all of the tumor because of the location in the brain. We have to wait for the results of the biopsy.
Thursday Sept 17th the neurologist initial pathology reports that Jerry has a high grade glioma, specifically Glioblastoma. (
https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/glioblastoma/cdc-20350148). This is a very aggressive, fast growing tumor. We are waiting to speak with the oncologist to confirm.
Jerry seems to answer yes or no questions however he struggles to get words out in an order that can be understood. The nurses say its normal and they call it word salad.
Jerry has been moved back to the neurology floor this afternoon and has started physical therapy, occupational therapy and speech therapy. Jerry will be transferred to an acute rehab center within the next few days. We believe that Brian will be able to visit him on a somewhat regular basis. :)
We will be updating this page as things change with Jerry.
