On July 21st an abdominal ultrasound revealed that I had an ovarian cyst which needed further evaluation. Fortunately, I was able to see Dr. Marta Crispens, Director of the Vanderbilt Division of Gynecologic Oncology a week later and she scheduled surgery for August 5th to remove the cyst and related parts. Hospitalization was estimated to last two to four days followed by four to six weeks of recovery at home.
If something like this was going to happen, it couldn't have happened at a better time in my life. I'm spiritually, physically and mentally as prepared as a 69 year old can be... and did I mention retired? I have the love and support of a wonderful husband, and many family, friends and neighbors.
