Welcome to Jen Kissling's CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated, all in one place. We really appreciate all your support and words of love, prayers and encouragement as Jen moves forward on this journey.

Recently, Jen noticed that some breast tissue in her left armpit had grown a bit bigger. Like the responsible adult she is, she went in to get it checked out. Although her armpit was just fine, the doctor found a lump during the exam and sent her to get an ultrasound. The ultrasound appointment turned into her first mammogram and a couple biopsies. The next day, Jen was diagnosed with Breast Cancer.

Since then, she has had several more tests, including a MRI and a PET Scan to help determine the severity of the cancer and a path to fight it. Doctors have determined that Jen has "roughly" stage 3 breast cancer. She tested positive for both the Estrogen and Progesterone Receptors and negative for HER2 protein.  Although the cancer has spread to her left axillary lymph node, she has NO cancer in her right breast, or ANYWHERE else in her body!

Jen has an amazing care team who have come up with a comprehensive plan of action. She will begin chemotherapy on July 11th. There will be two, twelve week phases of chemo before she will then have a mastectomy. After surgery she may or may not need radiation, that will be assessed when the time comes. Lastly, she will take hormone blockers to prevent this $h!t from ever coming back.  According to this plan, Jen will have this beat within the year.... you will then see her going on vacation with her Delta Airlines credits from the recently cancelled Justin Bieber concert.

While it has been a difficult few weeks, Jen, Ben, Brooks and Avery are doing well and staying super positive. They have the most incredible support system in their friends and family and have already received an outpouring of love and kindness. It is this support, this wonderful village of people, which will help them get through this fight with strength, courage, and fierce drive to KICK CANCER'S A$$.

With that said, as we move forward, we will be organizing ways in which people who want to help, can directly contribute to the Kissling family. I will continue to use this page to post those resources and ways you can help. In the meantime, Jen greatly appreciates all the prayers, good vibes, virtual love and hugs that everyone has to give.

Feel free to follow this page for updates and journal entries from Jen and/or me as we learn more throughout the process.

Again, thank you all for being here and sending your love to our dear friend, wife, mother, daughter, cousin, and sister from another mister, Jen Kissling.
