Exodus 14:14 The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still.
Between planning for our wedding reception, and planning a 3 week road trip across the country, Tim and I have been extremely busy. Not to mention being parents to two extremely energetic little boys! Somewhere along the way, I started having these crazy migraines. Lasting for almost two weeks, on and off. Not too soon after, I realized there was a swollen spot on the left side of my neck. I’m not one to panic, but I knew I needed to be seen.
Upon seeing my doctor, they told me to come back in one weeks time if the swelling (that was swollen for weeks) hadn’t gone down - also prescribing me extra strength Motrin for the migraines. I saw a chiropractor who actually alleviated the migraine with one appointment. But, the swelling was still there, and by this time getting bigger. I followed up with my doctor, he too, noticed that the swelling was getting bigger.
Shortly after, I went in for a catscan - the results came back and they couldn’t see well enough what they were looking for. A week after that I went in for a needle biopsy. The results came back - positive for thyroid cancer.
I never thought it’d be me. 2018 was the year I was trying to get as healthy as possible. Taking all sorts of supplements, probiotics, prenatal, and eating right. I had a few evil thoughts creep into my mind that scared me regarding the swelling in my neck, but I tried to dismiss them as something impossible. When I had gained 10 pounds in a week, I questioned the stability of my thyroid - but never once did I think it could have been cancer.
Hearing your doctor drop the ‘C’ word is mind blowing. I wasn’t able to process much more of the appointment. Leaving there in shock, I called my mom, my husband, my mother in law, and my best friend. But, still felt like I was alone.
Today is only day two, and although the exact plans are still uncertain - my Godmother was able to get a referral for a great Thyroid specialist out of Dana- Farber in Boston. My Aunt Michelle is cancer free after months of battling cancer herself and recommended I go there as well. She is the ultimate inspiration in all of this.
So, once they see if it has spread elsewhere we can solidify a plan for treatment of the tumor. Until then it’s all a waiting game.
Hoping to use this site as a way to keep everyone updated - I’ve had an overflow of messages and a lot of questions that I myself can’t answer yet. One thing for sure is, this chick isn’t going down without a fight !
