Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Jeni was in an accident on Monday, July 20th at about 8:00 pm.  Dustin and Jeni were headed to a pasture to treat cattle for pink eye.  They were driving down the road in a ranger and Jeni tried closing her door tighter.  The door caught in the wind and flew open.  She tried hanging on with both hands and it pulled her right out of the vehicle.  She hit her head hard on the gravel road and rolled into the ditch.  When Dustin got to her she was unconscious and bleeding from the nose and back of the head.  He called 911 and within about 5 minutes Jeni was conscious.  The ambulance got there in about 20 minutes.  They took her to the Huron Hospital.  She was being very feisty when they were trying to get her on the stretcher and in the ambulance.  They said that she definitely had not lost her strength.   When in the ER at the Huron Hospital they had to sedate her because she could not settle down and was trying to remove everything including the neck collar and IV's .  They did CAT scans and consulted with neurologists in Sioux Falls.  She has a fracture on the back of her head and had several staples put in.  She also had a brain bleed on the front of her brain.  At that time they decided to send her on to Avera in Sioux Falls.   It was stormy out that night so it took several hours for a plane to finally come from Sioux Falls.  She flew out of Huron around 3:00 and arrived in Sioux Falls around 4:00.  They wouldn't let anyone fly with her so we drove.  Because of Covid 19 only one person can be with Jeni for 24 hour shifts.   Dustin was the first shift.  He arrived at around 5:20 and she was still in the ER at Avera and they were doing new CAT scans.  She was then taken to ICU.
