Jeff Vander Beek

Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

Jeff had not been feeling well much of the summer of 2019.  After several trips to the ER & urgent care and many tests later.  They told him he had Crones disease. It was then decided to have a colonoscopy.  It came back showing some spots on his colon and another surgery was scheduled to remove a part of his colon.  That surgery was September 13th.  The surgeon came out to tell us that Jeff had stage 4 colon cancer.  So not the news we were excepting to hear or wanted to hear.  This started a months long hospital stay.   During that month we were transported by ambulance to Methodist hospital in DM for a procedure for his gall bladder as it was causing lots of issues.  The procedure went well and he left there with a bag for the gall bladder to drain into.  The ambulance ride back to Pella was very hard on him and it took a few days for him to recuperate from it.
On October 11, 2019 he was released from the hospital.  On being released from the hospital he was put on in-home hospice care.  We have been caring for him at his home since then.  He got an infection in his incision which was another set back.  His surgeon was amazing and made at least 3 house calls to check on it and take the staples & sutchers out.
The hospice team has been unbelievable and helpful in so, so many ways.  He absolutely loves his hospice nurse!
Please continue to pray for peace and comfort for him.
