Dear friends and colleagues:

I am writing to share news of Jeanmarie’s recent medical diagnosis with you. The best way to do this is through this CaringBridge site, as it offers Bill and Jeanmarie some privacy, as well as a vehicle to communicate with you.

Updates will be sent to you as her journey progresses regarding her medical situation and the decisions she will make in the future.

To put things in sequence, Jeanmarie had an MRI to diagnose her back pain.  Because the images detected some spots the doctors recommended a CT Scan,  mammogram and ultrasound, as well as a biopsy of her pelvis along with many  blood tests.

Unfortunately the tests revealed that she had Stage 4 breast cancer that had metastasized in her bones. She was referred to one of the top oncologists at the Polyclinic, who started her on an oral chemotherapy drug.  The side effects from this therapy totally outweighed the potential for a positive result.  At that point she halted the cancer treatment.

Jeanmarie then got a lung infection which had reduced her oxygen to a dangerously low level.  After two days under observation at Northwest Hospital she was released to return home.

Unfortunately, her oxygen levels did not increase and she was rushed to UW Hospital where she was under observation for a week before returning home.

Her cancer is no longer being treated. Her emphasis now is to finalize the decisions she has control over.

We all appreciate your caring and concern.  They feel very fortunate to have so many thoughtful friends.
