J. Robert (Bob) Hanson, our beloved father and grandfather, was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer a few months ago. He is in his last days, and we wanted to let his many friends and admirers know, and give you an opportunity to share your thoughts and experiences.
Below is the biography used at the most recent performance of his music (the St. Olaf Orchestra Senior Soloist concert in May), which gives an overview of his life. Of course, it doesn't begin to capture who he is - his humor, his kind heart, his integrity, his love for music, for teaching, for his family, students, and friends. Thank you for visiting the site, and please feel free to share whatever you wish.

J. Robert Hanson is a 1951 graduate of Concordia College, Moorhead, Minnesota. His graduate study at the University of Iowa included the completion of a M.A. in Music Education, a M.F.A. in Trumpet Performance and a Ph.D. in Composition. He taught at the University of Iowa and the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee before joining the music faculty at Concordia College in 1966, where he conducted the band and founded the Concordia College Orchestra.  He also conducted the Fargo-Moorhead Symphony from 1974 to 1990.  He retired from Concordia in 1995, and for 17 years taught part-time at St. Olaf College in Northfield, MN.
