On Wednesday, November 16, Jay suffered a stroke on the right side of his brain. There was dramatic internal bleeding that left him temporarily paralyzed on his left side. After a terrifying first 24 hours at Suburban, Jay had surgery Thursday morning to remove a blood clot and relieve pressure on his brain. The surgery went well and by Thursday afternoon, he was beginning to regain feeling in his left leg and arm.
Though he struggles to communicate with us, he's been responding directly to questions and contributing to conversations going on around him with his typical wit and sarcasm, so he's still Jay.
At this time, because he's extremely uncomfortable, recovering from surgery and not able to clearly communicate, we are asking friends to hold off visiting him at the hospital. We're hopeful that he'll be matched with a rehabilitation hospital by next week, so we'll keep everyone posted.
