On Sunday, March 5th Jayden came down with a fever. The fever continued into Monday so contacted our doctor who requested the she be seen. During that doctor visit Jayden was tested for flu, strep and UTI. The results on all tests performed were negative. On Monday nigh she started to vomit When she got up on Tuesday she was still vomiting and complaining of a headache and neck. Given the additional symptoms her doctor was concerned that she may have meningitis. We spent most of the day at the ER receiving IV fluids. They also testing her for meningitis, mono, UTI, blood nose swab. Results showed she had a virus called "Corona Virus".
Her fever continued into Wednesday and Thursday with the threat of dehydration. On Thursday the Neck pain and headache were still present and she had severe pain in her back from the lumbar puncture she had on Tuesday to test for meningitis. After talking with our doctors the decision was made to admit her to Covenant Hospital in Waterloo with the intent to get her hydrated and determine what was causing the high fever.
On Friday morning the results of blood work showed she had a staph infection. There were concerns of the infection spreading to her heart, therefore, we were transferred to the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City.
