Jason was involved in a hit and run accident on Saturday April 22nd. At approximately 10:20pm Jason went outside to flag down a motorcyclist that had been riding at high rates of speed up and down our street to ask him to slow down. Jason crossed the street and was standing off to the side of the road waving his arms to get the bikers attention, unfortunately the biker did not stop and Jason couldn't get out of his way fast enough. Jason was struck and ran over by the motorcycle. He has suffered extensive injuries to his lower extremities. He has a Right leg fracture at the knee and a left tibula/fibula fracture. In his right leg he also tore the popliteal artery that runs down the back of your leg. When Jason arrived at Regions Hospital he had no blood flow to the lower portion of his right leg due to the torn artery. They took him straight to surgery and did a fem/pop bypass where they harvested a vein from the left thigh and grafted it to bypass the damaged portion of the artery in the right leg. He had sustained an open fracture on the left leg also. During surgery they cleaned out his wounds and placed external fixation devices on both legs. He was in surgery for 8 hours. Luckily he suffered no major head trauma, however he did sustain a laceration to the back of his head and chin. He has a beautiful black eye, and later a open fracture to his right arm was also found. He will return to the OR tomorrow to clean out wounds, and set the fracture in the left leg and right arm. He has a very long recovery ahead of him and I will keep this site updated as much as possible.
