Our precious little man, Jase Thomas, made his entrance into our world a little early! He was born on Thursday July 26th at 6:02pm at 37 weeks and 3 days. Weighing in at 7 pounds and 12 ounces and 19 and 3/4 inches long. We had a routine doctor's appointment which turned into us going directly to the hospital around noon. The labor and delivery went smoothly without a hitch.
About an hour after he was born, he was taken to the NICU to monitor his oxygen levels and run several other tests. Jase was transferred to Children’s Hospital NICU on Friday morning to continue monitoring his oxygen levels. At Children’s, Jase's tests concluded that he has a mid muscular ventricular septum defect (several small holes between his heart ventricles) along with trisomy 21. He was placed on antibiotics for infection prevention and oxygen as they continued to monitor his progress. On Saturday, they started light therapy to treat for Jaundice. They weaned his oxygen from 750cc to 75cc to 40cc and then finally off. He has been off and on oxygen for the past couple of days.

His feedings have increased as well and he is doing great learning how to breastfeed and take a bottle. He went from 10mL of milk from a bottle to now taking over 60mL of milk in a feeding.

We believe that God is specifically chosen us as parents to raise this amazing little man.

We are so in love with Jase and are so blessed to be his parents! We love getting texts and people checking-in, but haven't quite had the time to respond to everyone in a way that we would want to. So please use this page to see updates on how Jase is doing and we would ask that you continue to pray with us for his healing so we can bring our precious son home!

Please understand that it’s not that we don’t want visitors, Jase just needs to be a little more stable with everything before he has visitors other than family.

Love,
Rachel and Derek
