Week 5: Jan has been transferred to the ICU at Kindred Hospital - Clear Lake (LTACH - Long Term Acute Care Hospital) on Sept 21st to begin the process in her long road to healing and recovery. They are estimating her stay to be at least a month, baring further setbacks.
Jan was admitted to Methodist Hospital ICU the night on August 23rd after feeling very sick with Covid/Flu symptoms (both negative) at home the week prior. She was diagnosed with a relatively rare form of bacterial pneumonia, Legionnaires Disease.
Week One of her hospital stay brought: Full intubation/ventilator support, RotoProne bed therapy, induced coma and paralytics Week Two: Marginal improvement w/ lung , diminished kidney function resulting in dialysis, transfer from Rotoprone to hospital bed (Huge milestone!), setback with secondary infection/fever/worsening Chest X-rays, heart rate/BP issues Week Three: More dialysis, infection issues, marginal lung improvement Week Three, Day 5: Surgery Day Tracheostomy, Central line for dialysis, filter for blood clots Week Four: Removal of sedation, paralytics, very slow to emerge. CT to rule-out stroke/head trauma, beginning to wean ventilator settings, PEG tube placement for feedings, kidney function improvement - tapering dialysis to 2X/wk, plan to transfer to long-term care facility next week.
