This past Saturday, Jan (Janice) Rivard was abruptly admitted to Regions hospital in St. Paul, Minnesota. Her journey to the hospital began that morning as her husband Al and her were preparing for the day to watch grandchildren. As the morning unfolded, Al quickly noticed physical weakness and decline in speech. He immediately called 911 and the ambulance took her in suspecting a stroke. She was being treated for a stroke when quickly the doctors realized she actually was suffering from a bacterial infection. We were very hopeful to see recovery of some sort coming as prayers were flooding in. A bacterial infection? Jan can easily handle that! Things quickly deteriorated as Sunday went on in the hospital, losing already limited speech and movement. What seemed like an endless day of testing and waiting turned into finding a brain bleed. The silver lining was in the process the correct bacteria was identified. With knowledge of the bacteria she was fighting we knew what she was up against: Heart problems (preexisting and from the bacteria), stroke/brain bleeding, and making sure the antibiotics were working. Al kept by her side showing pictures and videos of her grandchildren, family, and friends, and sharing the notes that people were sending her. Tuesday brought great news as enough tests were performed to pull tubes out after seeing Jan responding with some movement and sound! As a family we are grateful for all the love and support, and most of all, prayers that have been sent our way. More to come as we find out what our journey with our Wife, Grandma, Mom, and friend looks like. We feel that it important to say that Jan has received two vaccines for COVID already. While in the hospital she has continued to test negative!
