I've been diagnosed with Squamous Cell Carcinoma, it's a type of Skin Cancer. The cancer is located in my lower left jaw. June 27th I will go in for surgery to have the cancer removed. The surgery will be 8-9 hours. If the cancer is in the jaw they will remove part of the jaw that has the cancer. Reconstruction of the jaw will take place durning the surgery by removing part of the fibular bone and they will do a radial forearm free flip for skin/tissue replacement.
Because of the area of surgery and the swelling I will have a trach until swelling goes down. There will be a feeding tube through my nose until my jaw has healed enough to eat on my own.
