Welcome to Janice Good's Caringbridge site.  We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.

NOTE: I'm trying to go back in time to give the full story as everything is fast moving.  I feel it will be helpful in tracking mom's progress.

On January 29th mom had a massive stroke at home shortly after waking up for the day.  Luckily, dad was home and found her right after she had the stroke.  He called for an ambulance and paramedics were there within minutes to transport mom to the local ER (Mercy Lorain).  The ER doctor told us they were going to treat her with a drug that is used specifically to treat strokes but needs to be administered within the first 4 hours of the event.  Luckily, she received the drug about an hour after it happened which was critical in stopping the stroke from progressing.  She was moved up to the ICU and they performed several tests and scans which showed she still had a blockage in her brain which would require emergency surgery.  The hospital did not have the facilities to perform that type of procedure so she was transported by Life Flight to Cleveland Clinic Fairview Hospital for emergency surgery.  The surgery was successful and they continued to stabilize her in the ICU at Fairview.

As of 1/29/22:
Mom CAN: move her left arm, lift her left leg, squeeze with her left hand, open her eyes and track movement, respond to questions by mumbling yes, no and ok.
Mom CANNOT: smile, stick out her tongue, swallow, say her name, lift her right leg on command, squeeze her right hand on command.

More updates to come as we get them.  We appreciate all of the prayers and messages from family and friends who love and care about mom.

Tim
