This Chapter in My Life

In autumn of 2016, I was diagnosed with bladder cancer. Through the care of my urologist, I successfully completed a couple of surgeries and Bacillus Calmette-Guerin therapy. My urologist indicated that I was cancer free. I felt healthy, stronger and more active until late October 2017. In a routine follow up with my urologist, I was informed that cancer cells were present and that I needed another surgery. Within that time my health changed drastically. I began to experience hip and shoulder pain. Thinking that I was having a Rheumatoid Arthritis flare up, I sought out treatment from my rheumatologist, but there was no improvement. During the week between Christmas and New Year’s I began to experience additional pain in my back. It wasn’t until my birthday, January 5, that I ended up being transported to Beebe Hospital due to excruciating back pain and trouble breathing. Being transported from home to the hospital in the ambulance was quite the experience, as Winter Strom Grayson dumped 12 inches of snow in Rehoboth Beach, DE the day before. While in the ER, multiple tests were run. Now comes the hard part- I was diagnosed with metastatic cancer affecting my lungs, bones, and liver. I am still trying to digest this news, turning inward to my faith and outward toward all of you. I ask for prayer. My needs currently are-strength, courage, hope, positive thoughts, peace, and being pain free.

I have my first oncology appointment schedule for Tuesday Jan 23rd. At this time, I please ask everyone to respect my need for rest. I will use this site to communicates updates on how I am doing and to share information. Thank you for your prayers and well wishes.   Love to all~ Jane
