Janet Longmore , recently received some bad news. She has breast cancer. It is not early stage and at this point, BEFORE the MRI.. it is suspected to have traveled. She is looking at a double mastectomy and , of course, lymph node removal... plus the possibility of more extensive surgery.

I have spoken with her and have permission to share information.

She has a very limited income and is in subsidized housing. Janet does have two adult children but there are disabilities to consider and the help they can give is somewhat limited. Janet is the only person who drives in her household.

Friends and I have discussed various options. Janet is naturally frightened at this time and trying to figure everything out. Her out of pocket costs are going to be enormous.. even after insurance coverage.

She is worried about transportation.. not just to MD appointments but to the grocery store. She will be unable to get to the store.. much less handle the energy it takes to grocery shop..and I promise you, it takes a LOT of energy.

There are some services to help. Denton County has medical transportation to Dr's appointments, there is meals on wheels (a FANTASTIC organization), a service that offers housecleaning for breast cancer victims while they are on chemo / radiation. All these services must be applied for. Paperwork, Paperwork and more paperwork when you are tired, sick and scared.
I have offered to help with the paperwork and will start looking at all these resources today.

Janet is still 3 months out from receiving Medicare and she can't wait three months.....

So.... after speaking with Janet and friends we feel that a Go Fund me account is too costly..they keep a portion and it is a great service but I would rather every donation go to Janet.. 100%.

Prime Pantry is an excellent option for Janet. She can order and have the items delivered to her door. Amazon Prime Pantry offers everything from basic pantry items to hygiene and house cleaning stuff. Gift cards start at $1.00 and can be sent via email. Janet already has a Prime account.

Another idea is (DO NOT THROW ROCKS AT ME) Walmart gift cards as they have a shopping option and pick up at the door. This way she can get items that require refrigeration.. meat, milk, etc. Walmart is the only place in Denton that has this option.

Janet's family has a number of food allergies so they have to be careful of ingredients. We considered some of the meal packages but due to allergy concerns decided that was not the best option.

I am asking you again to help support a member of our community who has given so much to us.

The groceries and such will leave her additional cash for co-pays. She can manage rent and utilities.

We also feel she will need occasional transportation, a way home from the hospital following surgery.. they don't let you take a cab. Someone MUST pick you up.. a way to get groceries from Walmart to her apartment...
and of course... occasional calls, visits, notes and encouragement.

If you have other ideas I would LOVE to hear them, more so... please let me know if you feel you can provide transportation, gift cards, notes, grocery delivery... or anything else that could help.

Janet works hard volunteering for her community and now she could use a little help. I have high hopes that we can support her effectively.

Thank you in advance folks...
