In late January of 2016, Janet was experiencing symptoms of a stroke including acute aphasia. A trip to the e.r. and subsequent tests showed bleeding in the brain. Emergency surgery revealed a tumor, then removed, that was later diagnosed as glioblastoma multiforme (GBM). GBM is an aggressive, incurable type of brain cancer.
Following recovery from surgery, Janet recuperated further and underwent daily radiation and chemotherapy while staying with her children in Oregon.
She is now back in Michigan and has a 5 days a month oral chemotherapy regimen.
Recovery has been long as language difficulties continue as well as symptoms related to brain injury from the tumor and it's removal.
