April, 2014 Hello to all who care to stop by and visit me here. I have been sharing some rather grim news about my diagnosis, and I am so happy to have this way to share good news as well. I will try to keep you updated, perhaps with the help of my family at times, on my journey to heaven or health! ;-)…. or both for that matter.
So far I have felt like I have been in some kind of bubble, and can only think that it is because of all the people who are praying for me. So thank you to each of you for your prayers. Every time I turn around I see something great has happened that can't be mere coincidence. Later I will write about these things, but for now, just the latest couple events that have me and my family so encouraged: I have non small cell lung cancer, and there is a genetic mutation involved in 15% of those who have this type of cancer. There is a drug that targets the cancer, and shrinks the tumors, even the ones found in other parts of the body, (bone, liver, etc). I was tested for this, and this week found out, indeed I am in the 15% who have this genetic mutation, and I will be able to take this drug. Side effects not so severe as chemo, and results much better.
I have also been researching integrative approaches to this disease and have decided to spend five days in Arizona at the Cancer Treatment Center of America. I will be leaving on Monday with my daughter, Beth. My insurance, through a company I retired from a few years ago was changed January 1st. It was not by my choice, they were just dropping the HMO that I had for years. It turns out the new company covers Cancer Treatment Centers of America, and my original company would not have. So amazing to be able to go without financial hardships. That's all for now, hoping to update from Arizona. Love, Jane
