Friday, May 25, 2018, James realized he was having a problem forming sentences. A friend took him to the ER at St Dominic. That evening a CAT scan was done on his brain and it revealed three tumors - one the size of a marble and two much smaller ones. Doctors felt that the presentation was not brain cancer but a cancer that started somewhere else. Scans performed the next day found cancer in his lung, lymph glands, shoulder bone, and adrenal glands. He was released from St Dominic on Sunday, May 29, 2018, with prescriptions for several medications including a steroid to ameliorate the swelling in the brain. James underwent a biopsy on May 31 which revealed that the cancer is adenocarcinoma that originated in the lung. Because of the cancer's spread, it is considered Stage 4. James started a series of ten radiation treatments to the brain and shoulder on June 13, 2018, and will undergo chemotherapy starting June 26, 2018.
