Jake Pollock Jake’s Road to Recovery

Jake was in a car accident in Seattle on Saturday, September 30th.   He sustained serious injuries including a collapsed lung and a traumatic brain injury with a diffuse axonal injury (DAI).    Jake was taken to Harborview Hospital in Seattle.   He was intubated on the scene as he was found to be in status epilepticus (a state of constant seizure).

The MRI revealed that Jake had a stroke, a possible tumor on his adrenal gland, and multiple hemorrhages in his brainstem, cerebellum and occipital lobe of his brain.   We won't know the extent of the damage or long term impacts for awhile.

They have tried to take out the breathing tube once but had to put it back in as he was struggling to breathe.

He now has VAP (Ventilator Associated Pneumonia) and is being treated with antibiotics.  Given Jake's epilepsy and the medications he takes, the doctors are working hard to determine if his blood results are a result of infection or side effects of his medication.

He is also having many periods of "storming" with autonomic responses and abnormal posturing.   This is making it difficult for him to rest which is impeding his forward progress.    We are working with the doctors to determine the best course of action to give his brain a break so that it can heal.
