Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting.

On April 11th Jake started complaining of back, leg and some stomach pain.  The first week he was taken to the  Dr. and they thought it was a pulled muscle. After the pain continued to worsen & it was difficult for Jake to make it through a school day due to pain, he went to an Orthopedic Urgent Care and the x ray came back normal. The Dr recommended an MRI which was completed Tuesday April 20th. The Drs at Mercy said Jake had Leukemia in his spine & sent him to DeVos. Jake’s blood work came back normal which confused the doctors. On  Thursday they returned to DeVos to have a PET scan & meet with the Oncologist. Luckily no other spots were found on the PET scan just T10 and T6. It's either Langerhans cell histiocytosis or early leukemia. Jake will have surgery next Friday 4/30  where they biopsy his vertebrae and a sample of his bone marrow from his hip. Langerhans cell histiocytosis is not cancer but sometimes needs chemo and radiation, it is a rare disease.
