I am new to the world of "Journals" so please bare with me on the number and frequency of posts. As you can see I am already 1 month behind. I will try to update as often as possible.
I am 40 years old, married 20 Years to my wonderful husband Bob and we have 3 amazing daughters ages 15,16, & 17.
As most of you are aware by now about 1 month ago I was diagnosed with Stage 4 Bile Duct and Liver Cancer. I cannot put into words the devastation and hopelessness that Bob and I and our Girls felt that afternoon when the Dr. delivered this news. The initial shock of even hearing the word C.A.N.C.E.R was unreal. It literally brought Bob and I to our knees with tears... Bob never left my side for even a moment. He spent an entire week sleeping on a hospital chair making sure that I had everything I needed 24 hours a day. Most importantly, he made sure that I wasn't in pain for even a second. Liver cancer is one of the most painful cancers to fight. Bob still doesn't leave my side unless one of my sisters babysits:)
They discharged me for further treatment the same day I was diagnosed. This was such a huge relief.
Now home, we are trying our best to still be a normal family. While this has changed our lives forever; I am still the same Mama to our girls, the same wife to Bob and we will continue to be the same FAMILY... "The Mighty, Mighty Gibsons"-Linda C. The girls have been unbelievably helpful and strong even when we know they are scared and confused.
I honestly don't know how I would get through this without Bob, our girl and all of you. Some days Bob is on the phone with Doctors and Insurance companies for hours. He is up until 3 AM researching the latest treatments and the best Oncologists and Surgeons in the United States.
I started Chemo within a few days of being discharged with a local Doctor.
Since then, we have sought 2nd, 3rd & I think 4th opinions from several local Oncologists; as well as a Doctor located in California who is the #2 Surgical Oncologist in the US.
We have also met with a team of Doctors at MD Anderson Cancer Center here in Gilbert. This is where we will be completing my treatment. Because I have been diagnosed with an aggressive, Stage 4, type of Cancer I will undergo several different types of specialty surgeries over the next few months. We will keep everyone posted.
Thank you to everyone for all of your support.
Thank you for your motivating texts and calls.
Thank you to each & every friend and family member that has kindly supplied our Family with warm dinners, and brought amazing cards and gifts to help cheer me up.
