Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep Jack's family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement.
After three months of uncertainty, confusion, and concern, 16-year-old Jack Silver was diagnosed in October 2020 with Myelodysplastic Syndrome (MDS), and was told he would need a bone marrow transplant. On November 12, 2020, Jack, his parents Leslie and Michael, and his older sister Jayme were told that Jack had developed Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). Jack will be undergoing treatment at Hackensack hospital for approximately two and a half months in total. His treatment will be in three phases. The first phase includes chemotherapy to target Leukemia. This will be followed by phase two, which includes a bone marrow transplant to treat MDS. He will then spend 100 days at home to recover.
Since the diagnosis that turned their world on its axis, the Silver Family has been overwhelmed with love, offers of help and support, and many texts and phone calls. This CaringBridge website has been set up with their blessing to help keep those that love Jack updated on his journey to wellness. We will keep this site current with all updates and news of Jack's treatment, recovery, messages, and ways you can help support the family.
Jayme created an Instagram account called @jack.strong2 to motivate Jack throughout this battle. She posts inspirational pictures and updates on his progress, and just days after she created it, the account grew to thousands of followers. The primary question asked is, "How can we help?" The family is humbled by the outpouring of care and support and have begun a fundraising effort as their way of saying thanks. There are many fighting a similar battle who need assistance and support, and the Silvers want to help them on their journey to good health. 100% of all of the proceeds of JackStrong fundraising efforts (after product costs) will be donated to several different organizations. We will post links to fundraising efforts on this site as well.
