Hello family and friends, as most of you now know Ivan began chemotherapy on October 2 2017. Radiation is also something Ivan does daily Monday- Friday. Ivan is holding well, his spirit is high.  Ivan has a rare unknown type of cancer in his left leg they classified it as soft tissue sarcoma after numerous test and not knowing the exact name.  We are waiting for the DNA/gene testing to get back to us from the molecular lab.  That will tell specific DNA and mutation structure of the tumor.  The did 2 biopsies since they ran out of tissue due to all the testing.  It is aggressive according to the test and the size that it has grown since all the testing began.  The first MRI that was done on 08/11/2017 showed the size to be 6.5 cm *4.1 cm *3.7 cm.  The second MRI done on 10/03/2017 showed the sizes to be 9.2 cm *8.1 cm* 12.5cm.  He has had multiple test performed to see if the cancer had spread.  The bone marrow biopsies were negative! So no cancer in the bone, the PET scan showed mild activity in the left leg lympnode at the pelvis (left inguinal node measuring 6mm) so that will be treated with radiation.  And the PET scan and CT scan of the chest showed multiple tumors in both lungs.  They will not treat the lungs until after chemotherapy, radiation and surgery to the leg.  Welcome to our CaringBridge website.
