I never in a million years thought I would start a caring bridge site for my 18 year old son Isaac. Here is Isaacs story.
On Sunday March 15th Isaac complained that his left arm felt weird. On Monday March 16th Isaac went in to Sleepy Eye Medical Center to have it checked. They checked Isaac over with some tests and imaging and noticed there was a clot in his arm. Rosie and Sister in law Jackie took Isaac to Rochester Mayo where a vascular team was waiting for him. They admitted him and Tuesday March 17th they would perform surgery. They put a catheter in his left forearm and that’s when they noticed it was 3 veins that were clotted. They got what they could and decided another day or surgery was needed. On Wednesday March 18th they went in again and cleaned more out in the mean time they had him on a high dose of blood thinners to help break up the clot and thought one more day of surgery was needed. On Thursday March 19th before surgery they drew blood and noticed his creatinine number was high for his kidney so wanted a urine sample that is when our world changed. His urine was the color of coke and they realized his kidney was not functioning the way it was suppose to. A male that is 18 the creatinine number should be around .5 to 1.1 his was 4.3. They performed surgery to finish the clot and pull the catheter from his arm while in surgery they put a urine catheter in so they could keep track of urine he is producing. Later that day they took more blood work and his 4.3 number was now at 7.1 and that when they told us he was in kidney failure stage 5. Friday night that numbered climbed to 9.34. This morning Saturday March 21st his numbers came back at 10.2 and he only has 7% kidney function. As far as how does Isaac feel? Well here is where the good news comes he has a strong 18 year old heart, he has a strong 18 year old blood pressure, and he has a strong 18 year old oxygen level. He is on a fluid restriction because the fluid going in is not coming out the same way so they want to make sure he doesn’t have breathing issues. Isaac has a determination to get better and get him so he can game with his buddies! He misses his brother and dog and his bed. This from now on is where I will keep everyone up to date on his progress. Right now all Isaac needs is prayers. The Mayo is closing tomorrow to all visitors so I’m fighting to make sure I can be here with him every step of the way. Thanks again for all the prayers God is good all the time and he will not lead us a stray if we believe.
