1/25/18 was Irene's 80th Birthday.  Paul was in town and we went to see her.  When we arrived we could see right away her coloring was off, she was yellowish.  I brought into Urgent Care that afternoon and after blood tests we were sent to Methodist for hospital admission and more testing.  After running tests and imaging on Irene Friday and Saturday it was determined that she has a mass/blockage on her pancreas.  Because of her age and her dementia it is not operable or treatable.  Paul and I discussed our options and knowing my moms wishes we decided to move her back to her memory care facility here in Maple Grove and begin Hospice Care.   We were able to transfer her back on 1/30 and it has been wonderful.  Between the nurses that work at Wildflower and her hospice team that comes in to see her it's been amazing!  She is still walking around on her own but is definitely more tired and confused.  She is receiving scheduled pain meds 3 times per day as well as medicine for itching.  The time frame we were given was "days to weeks".  We are already on day 9 since "diagnosis", this shows my mom is a fighter.
While we are heartbroken with what the future holds we are at peace knowing my mom will soon be reunited with my dad and oldest brother Taras.  For those that were lucky enough to see my parents dance together they will soon be dancing again.
We decided to set up this site so we can keep  you informed of how she is doing.  We know this is a day by day journey.
