Ian was admitted to Boston Medical Center early in the morning on Jan 12th with a skull fracture. We aren't completely sure of the circumstance in which Ian sustained his injury yet. The person who called 911 saw him fall and reported he fell backwards on some icy steps while looking at his cell phone. He had surgery on that day to open his skull in order to relieve swelling in his brain. They removed a large palm sized piece from his skull during this surgery. We are very thankful to the doctors at BMC for taking such good care of him. Ian currently doesn't have a timeline for recovery, but it's generally estimated that it'll be a year long process. There isn't a way to accurately assess his possible brain damage until the swelling in his brain goes down. His condition is critical and nurses and doctors are monitoring him closely, If all goes well in about 12 weeks he’ll have a follow up surgery to repair his skull. The fact that he's young and in good shape will help with his recovery and combat the effects of staying immobile for so long.
We ask for your love, prayers, thoughts, drawings, music and-or whatever else you are inclined to do in such a circumstance. We all (Ian and his family) need everything you can do along these lines. Your caring and concern is a balm during this time for us.
