Welcome to our CaringBridge website. We are using it to keep family and friends updated in one place. We appreciate your support and words of hope and encouragement. Thank you for visiting. Please read the updates and feel free to leave me messages in the comments section. I (Howie) would like to hear from you all.
About one 2 months ago my husband, Howie, was diagnosed with cancer. We have just found out last week that he has Cancer of the Larynx, and Esophageal Cancer which has metastasized to the right lung.
The oncologist team has determined that Howie cannot have surgery  to remove the cancer. His lungs are too fragile to cut into, and he needs oxygen 100% of the time. Howie can't have chemo or radiation because his  health is too precarious.  Therefore,  they will be treating him with a new plan of treatment called immunotherapy.  With this treatment Howie has a 25% chance that the tumors will shrink, and a 10 % chance that the tumors will disappear.  We must look at this as HOPE, and have FAITH in our Prayers that the LOVE OF MY LIFE will survive.
We just heard from our Tuft's insurance that they rejected the immunotherapy.  We still must go ahead with it. It is his only chance at life.
We already have very little money for food and bills, since all we have to live on is Social Security.
This fund will help us meet our Cancer bills at Dana-Farber, the parking fees at the hospital which can be outrageous (our first day was $22 after validation), gas to drive back and forth, groceries, special food that Howie will be able to swallow, money to pay my psych. therapist which I need  badly right now, my medicines, Howie's medications.
Howie is a fighter, but this is going to be a tough battle. He has gotten down to 102 lb, and this is going to make it more difficult for him to fight this vicious disease, and everything is compromised by his late stage COPD.
Please Pray for us, especially for Howie.

This is an urgent situation. It seems that every day Howie's ability to swallow is less and less. This is an urgent situation because the tumor in his larynx could block his airway.Help spread the word!
