October 11, 2021 - not a day we wish to remember but a day that will be etched in our mind and heart forever.   It actually started back in the Spring of 2021 when Holly felt twitching in her fingers on her right hand.  She didn't think much of it as she had been a virtual teacher during Covid and she just felt it was a result of using the compter keyboard a lot.  As the Spring progressed and Summer came, she noticed losing strength in her right hand and less use of it.  As opening of school approached,  symptons  started to become more noticeable and holding a pencil and writing on the board was difficult.  As her mother, I encouraged her to go to the doctor as we felt strongly it was carpal tunnel.  So in September she made an appointment and saw an orthopedic doctor who felt she needed to see a neurologist.  From there we got THE diagnosis.  After getting a second and third opinion, we accepted the fact that yes, Holly had ALS.  It took us a couple of weeks before we could really let family and close friends know what was going on.  I want to back up just a bit and tell you about an awesome doctor she saw.  The first neurologist she saw was Dr. Nasrollah Eslami.  He was the one who ran the test.  He called her and told her he had an idea of what was going on but he wanted her to get a second opinion so he referred her to a neurologist at St. Vincents.  That was her appointment on October 11th.  School was out that day for Columbus Day so Eliza and John Thomas was with us.  I drove her to St. Vincent's and I sat in the car while she went for her appointment. It was that day we heard what we never thought was possible, but it is Holly's new journey.  I will continue this story but I need to go ahead and create entries to update everyone on what is currently happening.
