Heavan Papendick Heavan's Neuro Journey

First post: Jul 12, 2022 Latest post: Jul 22, 2022
Hello everybody, it's Philip (Phil, Pip, P, etc.)!  In some form or fashion, you all know and love our dear Heavan Lou. If we haven't met, it's nice to meet you; and if I have, good to see you.
Thank you for being here.

In May of this year, Heavan had a routine MRI to monitor the extremity AVM in her right thigh. We do this to track growth and curb any problems that may creep up. This year was different in that they added a head MRI to the docket.

They found that Heavan has a meningioma, a brain tumor. Specifically, one that has grown from the meninges, the layers of tissue covering the brain. Her's is along the right planum sphenoidal. In laymen's terms, behind her right eye just off the midline.

We immediately knew intervention would be necessary, and had initially planned on surgery with UF Neurosurgery at Shands Hospital in Gainesville, Fla. However in early June, Heavan had what would later be found to be a seizure behind the wheel. The Mazda was totaled a week later, but she was unharmed! The weeks that followed would be difficult as we struggled to get answers and understand the situation while balancing her new medications. All in all enduring 9 seizures over 3 weeks before medications would balance and take hold. Thanks to Tallahassee Memorial and its team of ER docs, Nurses, Neurologists, and Neurosurgeons we have a diagnosis, a plan of action, and a path forward. Neurosurgery.

June 2022 has been a hard and at times scary one. While daunting and scary in its ways, July 2022 is when we fight back for our life.

Heavan will be undergoing neurosurgery, a craniotomy, to remove the meningioma on July 13, 2022, with Dr. Oliver at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital (TMH).

Our dear Heavan has never had an easy go of things regarding her health. From Leukemia as a young child and teen, the AVM, and our latest nemesis a meningioma; she fights every day to make the best of her current situation. She is a light to everyone she meets and knows.

This Caring Bridge will be one of my primary means of updating the many members of our village spread near and far. Check back often and join us on our journey; sending all of the love, health, good vibes, and light you can to us along the way.

Much love -
