Herbert Ressler

Herbert was hospitalized in January 2015 after struggling with flu-like symptoms for several weeks. His heart was severely compromised and he was not expected to go home without a heart pump or heart transplant. He miraculously recovered and has been enjoying a nearly normal life at home until recently.

He started having some symptoms that worsened on Sunday, June 5. His daughter, Alysha, drove him to the emergency room in Houston that night, and shortly after he arrived at 2:00am, he had a massive heart attack.

He is in critically stable condition. His overall recovery from the heart attack is going very well, except for his heart, which is severely damaged. His heart will not likely recover enough for him to go home without either a heart transplant or an LVAD heart pump - the Medical Review Board has already approved him for either. He is on the transplant list as a high priority. A heart transplant will yield a better quality of life so that is the preference. If he does not receive a heart by Monday, June 20, the current plan is to place an LVAD but remain on the transplant list and hope to receive one after he has recovered from the LVAD surgery.

Herbert has a strong faith and a strong will to live. Your prayers are the best support that you can provide. Miguel has been feeding Herbert's dogs and keeping up the yard, but if anyone wants to help, they can contact Miguel.

What he needs most is a new heart...just in case anyone wants to be extremely giving!

Anyone who knows Herbert, knows that he has a strong faith, is a hard worker, and has a large circle of friends. He has worked for Palacios ISD for almost 30 years and is currently in the Assistant Superintendent of Business position. He plans to retire at the end of June. His family (wife, Monica, daughter, Alysha son-in-law, Miguel, son Zachary, son Miles and adorable grandsons, Julian and Jonah) are everything to him. He enjoys watching the grandsons' sports activities, watching sports on TV, mowing (sometimes), playing games with the family, keeping up with politics, and playing simple hymns on the piano. Herbert is a wonderful husband, an awesome parent and a very much loved PawPaw!
