Henry's story began on the 18th of November 2018. He was born some 3 weeks early and was quickly diagnosed with right dominant AV Canal, coarctation of the Aorta, VSD and ASD. Despite undergoing multiple prenatal echo cardiograms, his diagnosis did not completely foretell the journey that would eventually ensue. He would now have to undergo a series of procedures to repair these anomalies. The first, major, open heart surgery called the "Norwood Procedure" was performed when Henry was just weeks old and following that he spent the first 6 months of his life at Lurie's Children's Hospital under the watchful care of the many excellent professionals in the cardiac unit. Home now, enjoying his big and busy family, his journey continues. Henry is awaiting the second, open heart surgery called Glenn procedure, which is performed because he has outgrown the shunt that was put in during the "Norwood". Henry is busy trying to gain weight, do his OT, PT, sleep, smile, roll, wave and play, while the rest of the kids are dodging cars, dogs & random viruses. Although school has started, Vincent off to Kindergarten and the others off to SIJ and Hinsdale Central, the family routine is centered around caring for Henry and Joanna, Mike and the kids carry this burden with grace. Each member of the family having a special role with one another, whether it be, rocking Henry, running with Vince and Luke, coloring with Vera or playing outside with Analise. Daisy and Michael assume the roles needed at any given moment, whether it be watching the little kids or driving them where they need to go. As a family of strong faith, we have put our trust into God that no matter what his plan has in store for us, we will do our part and provide as much love and support as we possibly can. For those reading this, we appreciate your support and will update you upon on any changes or progress in Henry's long journey ahead.
