Dear Family and Friends, welcome to my CaringBridge website. I'm using this site to post updates on my current challenge.

Recently, I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma. MM is a cancer of the plasma cells of the blood which, at this time, there is no cure. However, there are major medical advancements made every day in the treatment of MM and it can be managed with chemotherapy, stem cell transplant and maintenance medications.

I am scheduled to be treated at University of Chicago by an excellent staff of doctors who are specialists in treating MM.  Start date is Thursday, September 12th. I am participating in a clinical trial and a genetic research project. Naturally, I am not looking forward to the treatments especially since I am feeling well at this time and the possible side effects of the many drugs used are intimidating.

I have much to live for and to be thankful for including my husband,  Jimmy, my daughter, Heather, my son-in-law, Graham and 8-month-old grandson, Wolfric, who is the light of my life.  Also, the fact that my MM was caught early before any bone damage could occur.

Some of you know that Amanda used this website for chronicling her battle with leukemia. I know she found it a source of great support, hope and encouragement via her visitors' messages.  Mandy's brave journey is my inspiration  and will be the hashtag that I'll use for my posts.  I only hope that I can  emulate her bravery and grace.

Thank you for visiting. #Mandyismyinspiration
