On Saturday January 13,  Helen experienced a medical emergency at home and was taken to Scripps La Jolla where she was diagnosed with a stroke. She is currently in the ICU and the Scripps La Jolla cardiovascular team is doing a great job monitoring her and developing a treatment plan.  She has had frequent CT scans and MRI's to make sure she remains stable .   When she is awake she responding to conversation but is not verbal yet as she has a breathing tube that is making that difficult to talk . We are hopeful that that will be removed today and she will be back chatting with us all in her brilliant English accent.

The boys have been kept occupied all weekend with trips to the beach and the mountains (surfing and hiking are great distractions for teen and pre-teen boys).   Julian's parents arrived last night and will be providing extra support to the family.   At this point the treatment team have advised us that minimal visitors are best for her, but we know that many of you are anxious to visit.  We will keep this site updated and will post details when feasible.  The family will likely need lots of help down the line and we am hoping to can coordinate your generous offers of meals, driving, etc....through this site.  We understand that this news will come as a enormous shock to everyone.  Please post your comments to Helen here and we will make sure that she receives them.   For now, what she needs is prayer, healing thoughts, and love from you all.
