Heinz fell after giving blood in December 2019 and suffered a badly broken leg that required immediate surgery. Since then he has suffered several challenging infection flare-ups and has struggled to heal. He has been in a lot of pain and faced many mobility hurdles, using a wheelchair for a month recently, and often on crutches. He had a tissue transfer several weeks ago, and his donor site has not healed well. Then last week he discovered that both the fibula and tibia are broken, causing much pain with any movement. He now faces a major surgery on April 7, 2021 for a bone graft with an external fixator.
