Two years ago, October 8, 2015, I underwent a partial colectomy to remove colon cancer. The surgery was seemingly successful.  The cancer was contained in the colon and I was considered Stage 1 with no further action required except six month follow ups and colonoscopies as dictated.  I did genetic testing at my Doctor’s request and found no genetic markers for colon cancer.  I fell into the 40% category of the unknown.  I was given a 90-95% cure rate and was told if it was going to come back it usually does within five years.  It has been two and we have recently discovered that it has returned.  I am extremely thankful for the abdominal pain that caused my Doctor to insist on a CT scan in October.  That scan didn’t reveal the cause of the pain, but did reveal a small tumor on my liver.  A Ct scan,  MRI,  colonoscopy, and  PET scan have given us a clear picture of the road ahead. I have Stage 4 Colon cancer with metastasis to the liver, a reoccurrence in my colon and cancer in one lymph node. I am blessed to have the health and ability to undergo surgery to remove the visible sites. We also feel incredibly blessed to have been referred to wonderful Doctors who have taken us under their wings and made us feel confident in what we need to do to fight this battle. God is revealing His love and mercy to us daily in the details of things coming together.  He is giving us peace and joy in the midst of this raging storm.
