Heather Quinn

     During the last few weeks as a Senior at Stoneman Douglas, Heather  underwent surgery to remove a large tumor. It is a rare cancer - Small Cell Carcinoma Ovarian Cancer, Hypercalcemic Type (SCCOCHT). She started chemotherapy on June 5, 2018. The treatment plan is three times a week every three weeks - for six cycles.  The cancer has metastasized.  The genetic results show there  is a mutation of the SMARCA4 gene and the molecular study indicates there are  other therapies in addition to her current treatment plan that can be of potential benefit. We are looking into clinical trials. 
      Heather is strong, determined and has a great sense of humor. This situation arose just as she was finishing up high school and figuring out which university to attend.  She is planning to attend University of Florida and is deferring until Summer 2019. John Hopkins gave the definitive diagnosis of which ovarian cancer we are dealing with. Heather joked that her cells managed to get into John Hopkins even though she didn't!
